When I was younger I dreamed of being a ballerina. They were breath taking to watch. My parents thought it was just a phase so never took my passion for it seriously ...till I started to grow up and they realised that this was more than just a silly obsession , it was what I wanted to become and still to this day is what identify myself as ....But there was one problem; I'm black . And the idea of a black ballerina popping into somebody's mind is taboo. Unheard of. Shunned. my parents tried all things possible to try and wean me off the idea of being a ballerina but I still continued to pursue the path. I couldn't understand the reason why they didn't want me to be a ballerina...so what if i was black? 'I'd be the first black ballerina ' My six year old self said...till I entered a scary place known as society...where everything you believe in is crushed.Where your plans, dreams and desire are tested to the limits,where you have to fight for your rights in a world where they see you as a threat, an enemy and for some 'inhuman'. Where the stereotypical world will ridicule you , underestimate you and judge you because they only see colour..... "Why the hell am I cut off ! " I yelled patiently waiting for him to answer but he refused to look at me in the eyes.
