Juliet Maureen Dalton has spent years confined within the rigid walls of St. Theresa's Academy, where discipline is mistaken for perfection and silence is expected to be obedient. Cold, composed, and carefully guarded, she's learned how to survive without needing anyone. But everything changes when she transfers to Welton Academy. Thrown into a world that feels entirely unfamiliar, Juliet finds herself surrounded by freedom, chaos-and people who refuse to ignore her. Among them is Knox Overstreet, a boy who sees something in her that she's spent years trying to bury. What starts as reluctant encounters slowly becomes something far more dangerous. Because for Juliet Dalton, who has built her life on control and distance, getting close to someone like Knox doesn't just mean change- It means risking everything she's worked so hard to protect. "Choose Adina. I'm trying my best to give you everything you have ever wanted. You're choosing her happiness over what could be ours," Valentino said. I knew he was right. I knew that she didn't love him anymore, but she loved the control she had over him. "Valentino, you and I both know it's way more than that-" I tried to say. "No, Adina, it's not. I loved you, even when I tried not to, I always loved you. She knew that, I knew that-why is that so hard for you to see?" ... Adina Blessing is 18 years old and getting ready to graduate from high school. She swore she'd stay focused-no distractions, no drama, just survive her final year and leave the past behind. But that promise is tested when Valentino Black, her ex-best friend's boyfriend, starts noticing her in ways she never expected. ... Valentino Black is 18 and the school's mysterious bad boy-the kind who doesn't get close to people unless he sees something real. Before he could talk to the quiet girl in the library, he got pulled into the orbit of the popular girl, looking for a project. Now he's waking up to the truth. The wrong girl burned his world down. But maybe the right one can rebuild it. Will Adina risk everything to be with him? Or will the ghosts of old friendships and broken trust pull them apart before they even begin?

This story was inspired by Walt Whitman's poem A Song of Myself. He defines individualism and the unique experience as something transcendental to one objective truth. We ought to heed his words in virtue of its beauty and all-inclusive nature. Truly remarkable.

The title comes from Whitman's poem "O LIVING always-always dying! O the burials of me, past and present! O me, while I stride ahead, material, visible, imperious as ever! O me, what I was for years, now dead, (I lament not-I am content;) O to disengage myself from those corpses of me, which I turn and look at, where I cast them! 5 To pass on, (O living! always living!) and leave the corpses behind!" It's a test in writing simple and subtle. Let me know what you think.

Hey y'all πŸ§β€β™‚οΈ this is my first published story so. Please don't bully me. Uh so ig this is a first girl at Welton type thing?? Maybe a Charlie Dalton love story?? Here's an excerpt 😌 Claire smiled and looked over to Charlie, "Go brush your teeth, we can do the other half of the experiment, now," He nodded vaguely before disappearing back into his room. Claire prepared a Petri dish and swab and Charlie came into her room soon with a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. "I only smoke one, right?" "Just one," she replied, sitting on her bed. Charlie nodded and sat at her desk, lighting up, "You want one?" "No, thanks," He lit a cigarette and took a drag, "Why don't you smoke?" "I know there's a smoker inside of me somewhere and I don't want to let her out," Charlie closed his eyes for a moment, "There's a smoker... there's a smoker inside you?" "You heard me, Dalton," "Okay, but- but that doesn't make sense," Claire shrugged, "Sure it does. You can't possibly know everything about someone, Charlie. You don't even know everything about yourself. Everyone is a million little things inside one person," He nodded, "Something tells me you're not struggling with Mr. Keating's poetry assignment," Anyway I hope you guys enjoy! Also if you know me in real life, you absolutely do not.

I finally had the courage to talk to her, to hug her, to kiss her soft lips. Then she has to leave, I now wish I wasn't a coward at the beginning of my high school life then maybe I would have had more time with her just to have her and hold her tight. "if we are meant to be, we will find our way back to each other" she says with tears in her eyes, I place my hand and she leans unto my touch, her chocolate skin looking so delicate. Bring her full lips to mine one last night enjoying the warmth and comfort it give me, I pull away slowly. "whenever we met again" I said whispering against her lips.
