William Gold (Wilbur Soot), former known as "Mr.Perfect" is the highest scorer in his district due to his perfectionist parents. He lives a rich life but is set to high standards, causing him to lose much sleep with studying and overthinking. His father being homophobic with a divorced mother. His brothers having to be distant from him because of his lash outs due to the overwhelming stress. He's tried to find the perfect girl but ends up only being friends with them or never talking to them again. While Alexis Nevadas, on the other hand, known as Mr.Unfortunate, has one of the lower scores but is passing grade due to his parents wanting him to at least past but only that because they don't give two flying fucks about what Alex does in his life. They always ignore him or complain about his attitude towards them when he barely gives them any and they're just really sensitive. Some times he gets hurt really badly and has to skip school from his parents getting mad at something small he did, and speaking of school, he gets bullied and harassed, sexual or not, and is called "The School's Slut" along with "Druggy" and "Party Animal". His friend group is known as being the highschool Senior bullies, due to Johnathan Schlatt, Nick Halo, and Clayton Puffy being in the group. (Will happen later in the book) Wilbur gets invited to a party by Alexis one day and he gets the idea to try and do drugs and alcohol to try to be one of the cool kids just to fit in during the party. He gets stuck somewhere in the house due to him getting high and drunk for the first time, totally wasted.
