Scarlett Sandfield has always had Whispers. That's what she calls the visions she has that always seem work out in her favor. That's why she's called Penny- to the outside world she seems incredibly lucky. Because of the Whispers, she could have it all if she wanted, but she'd rather just hang out with her best friend Sadie Karmine or stay at home and read. That all changes when girls at her high school start showing up dead. Scarlett thinks the Whispers will make it a cinch to solve this mystery but she soon realizes that there are no Whispers where the murders are involved. As Scarlett becomes determined to solve the mystery, she must dig deeper into the origin of her visions, and maybe even herself.

Illusion cheats on our eyes, as it does with the virtual perception. An illusion isn't virtual, although the virtual can be an illusion. It's not the threshold between unreal and real. It's the being inside a soap bubble which it gets popped. It wasn't there, yet the atmospheric emptiness is shortly present when the pin pins.
