After the battle over Jade Mountain things went rather poorly for Winter. Even with the empathy spell, a supposedly dead prince being dragged back to a home he was never supposed to return to raises too many questions and before he knows it he's imprisoned. Now that Winter is free, his life is in pieces and he has to pick up the pieces and find what he really want to do. He has some ideas but he'll need friends.

While visiting Hailstorm up in the Ice Kingdom Winter finds himself stucm in an igloo shelter with his childhood friend Lynx during a series of harsh wintertime storms. Trapped together the two dragons realize that their relationship might just run deeper than they thought.

Winter goes back to Jade Mountain, and he's in the Jade Winglet again. When Jade Mountain needs a replacement for Icicle, Queen Snowfall sends Lynx to the academy. Winter is confused when he stops liking Moon, but is even more confused when he recognizes he likes Lynx. WARNING!: CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR BOOKS 7-15.
