"Pocket-Sized and Bright as Day" is a lively, affectionate tribute to Dawn, a key part of the front-of-house team at Barter Books' Station Buffet Cafe. Set against the bustling backdrop of the historic Alnwick railway station, the poem captures the infectious energy of a truly remarkable woman. From her pocket-sized dynamo pace to her legendary generosity during the holidays, the verses celebrate the unique warmth and vibrant spirit she brings to both the customers and her colleagues every single day. Author's Note This poem was written as a special tribute to my wonderful work colleague, Dawn. Getting to work alongside someone so genuinely bubbly, kind, and thoughtful is an absolute honour. Dawn is the ultimate powerhouse-clearing tables and seating guests with the speed of a whippet, and always keeping our spirits high with her brilliant laugh (and the occasional dance by the till when the cafe goes quiet!). Beyond her fantastic energy, she has a heart of gold. She spoils the entire team rotten with treats on Birthdays, Christmas, Easter, and Halloween, and she is always the very first person to offer a listening ear or a comforting word if someone is going through a difficult time. This is my small way of saying a massive thank you to Dawn for keeping our workplace so bright.

When you start a new job and one day your colleague and closest work friend finds out that you've never dated anyone and suggests that you meet her son who happens to be a similar age. What could possibly happen? (Story was inspired from a dream and IRL experience- in dream bae was Tom Holland idk 😂🤷🏻‍♀️) Chanyeol bc bae Not sure if I will pursue this story- just want to get it out of my head and into words. 😊
