They are meant to hunt and kill the Worker Drones of Copper 9, who went rogue after a disaster that rendered Copper 9 inhospitable to organic life. Apollo is a random Worker Drone sent outside by herself armed only with a nail gun. She was tasked to contact a nearby site that was blocked by buildings. Rumors of a crash of a spacecraft resulting in tragedy had been going around, but none of those who saw it were alive anyways. One day, along with his teammates B and C, O found the lone worker drone and ambushed her.
