Hierd Die Grace, (what he calls himself anyways) awoke in another world, memories hazy about that old life of his. He finds himself with an accuired power. To have any"thing" that existed in the 1900's till 1950's. Guns, warships, planes, food, and military uniforms. Within the scope of his power, he commands (first) a village, then a city, then a country, then an Empire! Monsters of the winter, wars with countries, with the ever expanding presence of his empire, Hierd battles with humans, monsters, countries, entire continents with armies, navies and magical prowess. A rift in a medieval world; how will Hierd expand his empire? How will he use his power? And more importantly, what of his future? --- "I am the leader of Germany. It's founder, it's lord, it's force and intellect. I have come to plunder this city, not for resource, but for an army of men. I have not come to massacre innocent men and women. We have detained the civilians and put them in our carriages and tents. Fed them and reassured them. To the knights we have killed, I give my apology. But for this is war, apologies are not heard from, but are observed upon." - Hierd Die Grace

***Unedited*** A companion story to my novel Shadows May Fall. *Folks who have been reading along - you may have noticed that some of the parts have been unpublished (the ones set in 1904 and 1908.) The reason for this is that while I really enjoyed delving into the past with these characters and fleshing out Daniel and Lillian, they weren't really adding anything and coming up with a third one to fill the gap was just that -- filling the gap. I'll post them over at my website once this story is complete.

Echoes of Courage follows Jack's life first, a young crew member who perishes in the sinking of the Titanic. Then, the story changes to Edward's perspective, Jack's friend, a boy who travelled in first class. Inspired by Jack's bravery and selflessness, Edward enlists in the military as World War I looms. The story chronicles Edward's journey from the luxurious decks of the Titanic to the harrowing trenches of war, where he grapples with fear, loss, and the moral dilemmas of combat. Through his diary, Edward reflects on his evolving sense of duty, the enduring impact of friendship, and the quest for meaning amidst the chaos of war.

The Family that Went to War is both a family memoir and a history of the people of the state of New South Wales, Australia. The author, Gordon Smith, gives a well-documented account of six members of a family from Cootamundra, NSW, who enlisted in the First Australian Imperial Force (1st AIF) at the onset of World War I. His research in historical archives, newspapers, and memorial societies is well done. The accounts of war and details of each man's deployment presume that he also had their war diaries and letters from home to draw on for detail. The Commonwealth of Australia was still a young country, having formed a federation just over a decade previous. Australians still regarded Britain as their mother country, and when war broke out, Australia's Prime Minister declared support for Great Britain and formally entered the Great War. Six members of the family enlisted to fight the German army. He tells each man's story with informative passages about the region they are in, the larger picture of the war that raged around them, and then brings it back down to the trenches where the soldiers fought. Smith's details regarding ships, armaments, shortages and hardships and other details of the soldiers' experiences in Egypt and France will be of great interest to readers fascinated by World War I or the contribution of Australia to the Great War. Though the author writes with detachment, the stories of these soldiers in the midst of historical battles give a glimpse into the life, and death, of Australian soldiers. I was particularly interested in the account of William Power, fighting on the Western Front at Fromelles France. The losses to the Australian forces were described as, "the worst 24 hours in Australia's entire history". Though the account is given in a very matter-of-fact manner, it's hard not to sympathise with the Australian soldiers. Despite the dry, academic tone of the account, there are moments of humour and humanity that shine through.

This book is a series of people's stories from before / during both WWI and WWII. All of these people were trying to live their lives, some survived and some did not. These stories, along with many others, deserve to be heard for the things they did, the things they believed in and the things they went through. I would like to ask that if I miss any important events in any of the chapters or get anything wrong, please comment and tell me so I can fix it because it's important that I fix any mistakes that I make. Also make sure to have a look at the message on my profile in case you are a bit confused about the set up of the book.
