Checker Schmidt, an Austrian scientist, had been working on an easy and safe way to track someone's health, genetically modify disease when needed with CRISPR technology, help sleep, all in one. She was working on a chip-like model to help malnutrition and allow warning when someone was having a medical emergency. After World War 3, the world was desperate. People were dying and would take anything. She started giving this chip to people, and it worked. It strengthened their immune system, it helped them sleep, it did everything. It wasn't ready to be released, but it was anyway. She was broadcasted worldwide, and the 'Crisp' was distributed. But that was 150 years ago. Now, everyone has a Crisp. The human race can't survive without it. Or can they?
