Two stand alone zuko-centric stories:
Running hot:
Fire Lord Zuko has ruled over the Fire Nation for quite some time now. He's shown up to every meeting, attended every counsel and looked after his Nation. But one day, he comes down with something, and he's forced to let his advisors look after the Nation for him.
Zuko has never left the Fire Nation to his advisors, not since he took on the throne. Now he's being forced to sit back and let them make decisions for him while he recovers.
After not talking for almost a year since their second break-up, Mai is informed of Zuko's condition and offers to look after him. She never really stopped loving him, and seeing how much he has grown to care about the Fire Nation has made her fall for him even more.
However, when Zuko wakes next to Mai, Mai realises isn't sure she's got what it takes to deal with an anxious, very ill Zuko, but she loves him enough to help him in whatever way she can. Whether that be holding his hand while he panics, or holding his hair back while he pukes.
Burnt Out:
Sokka had never understood why Zuko put up with those meetings with the council. He always looked bored. Like he was about to be put to sleep and that Chamberlain said one more word. What Sokka had never realised that Zuko really didn't put up with it. Not really. Not in the way everyone had thought.
When Sokka tries to visit Zuko one day, he finds his old friend too busy in work and being the Fire Lord to notice, and when Sokka finally gets a moment with Zuko, he realises that Zuko is not doing as well as everyone thinks.
