So, as any normal 20+ year old taking a summer class -a hard one if I may add-, and adapting to a new apartment, we are bound to experience lots of things. Albeit, my experience is one that I like to think, many can relate.

In letters to "Emily Rose," an expectant mother chronicles the nine months leading up to her daughter's birth. The journey begins with the word "pregnant" in late autumn and continues through three more seasons, two small towns, and many unforeseeable challenges. Through it all, those little kicks and flutters give her a warm sense of direction in a world that can be, at times, cold and unpredictable. By documenting her experiences, this mother hopes to preserve the precious memories, and make peace with her mistakes and the things she cannot change. And someday she will share this story with Emily Rose, when she, too, is faced with the challenge of becoming a woman and mother. And like mother and child, their true story even has a story, one that began as a good idea (and a unique opportunity for self-reflection) and developed over the years into something stronger and wiser. My heartbeat was rising. Every millisecond that passed was pure adrenaline. The longboard was taking speed faster than I thought. It caught me off guard; I started to panic and thinking of ways to stop. I looked sideways; there was too much concrete and too many people standing on the grass where I could throw myself to land “safely”. Time seemed to slow down, five seconds seemed like hours.

This story describes the visit to Barbara Frietchie's house by Winston Churchill and Franklin D Roosevelt when they stopped at Frederick, Md in May 1943 on their way back to Washington after spending the weekend at Shangri-la (Camp David). The story also considers the arguments against the authenticity of the events as described in Mr. Whittier's poem, which remains, nonetheless, an uplifting call to action for those who would be otherwise oppressed.

After spending a year teaching in Thailand, I longed to travel with only my quirky self to keep me company. My journey started in Myanmar where temple cycles and village treks exposed me to the past and present of this intriguing nation. I returned to Northern Thailand for a volunteer experience and some of the most ingenious and adrenaline-pumping New Year's celebrations. Indonesia's smiling faces warmed my heart and even coaxed me out on a date or two.
