Soul-eating entities with skin as black as ink and a presence as cold as ice. They don't have an end goal, their only purpose: to consume. Through a series of events, a Shade meets Dawn, a shy, noble girl that's still coping the loss of her father, who died three years prior. The Shade curses himself to her umbrella. All the while, making a vow - to protect her and watch over her, even if that means ostracizing himself from the rest of his species. --- What to expect: - A character focused story with a cast you'll grow to love. (Or absolutely hate) - Grim, dark moments, balanced out by comforting and cozy moments. - A story that takes place in a Medieval London-esque world that's expanded on as the story progresses.

"What are you doing?!" the voice screeches from my earpiece. "Take him out!" I squint through the scope, my eyes narrowing in on my target. It was indeed him. It never occurred to me that he would eventually be on of my targets. But that didn't matter. I carefully position my finger over the trigger. And then it happens. His light blue eyes meet mine. A tremor of an unidentifiable feeling washes over me. I was frozen in place. "Sagittarius! What are you doing? Shoot him!" the voice screams. But I can't. *** Kayleigh Sagittarius is a sniper. Her life is quite simple. Find your target. Point the gun. Shoot. She has one job and one job only-kill. Until one day, one look changes everything. Kayleigh begins to question the life that she has been living. Because now, she doesn't want to be the one holding the gun. But how can she change if all she's ever known is how to kill?

These are the clues Detective Richard Trotter is stuck with after the disappearance of Woodrow Reed, a retired wealthy investor, and his wife Cynthia, from their mansion. The forensic scientists conclude that most of the blood in the house came from Cynthia. When Woodrow is found alive in a remote area in the mountains, he confirms that his wife was killed in the house by masked assailants, who then kidnapped him and stole the coin collection. As the police is trying to find the remote mountain location where Woodrow was held captive, Trotter is looking into the background of the Army Ranger whose DNA was found at the crime scene. Meanwhile, the FBI monitors international black markets for signs that the stolen coins are being offered for sale. It turns out a few of them were ... several months before they were taken. --------- I have been plotting this short story for a while, and decided to write it specifically for the #Wattys2016. When a war is raging for as long as this one, our people have forgotten why it even started. Now our people fight for one reason and one reason only to revenge the ones who have died. This war has been too long lived and it is the time it comes to an end. Change of leadership happening this is just the opening that my sister and I are going to start with. A new start and a chances to raise the kids of our race that we do have without blood on their hands. The fae race was never meant to be in the war they love art and life this was our goal. Now with the loss of yet another loved one I place my sister to rest. It falls only on me to change what Lisa and I always planned too. Ending The War.
