When her father is found brutally murdered in the park, the case takes on a different feeling. Letters and notes start to come in, each unsigned and with a hand drawn lantern on the front. Attempting an investigation on his own has him opening cold cases from long before his time. With only his conscience for backup, Shawn finds himself caught up in a hunt for the murderer thats the devil for the cruel and a Merciful Monster for the abused. Who is sending the letters? Who are the real monsters? Shawn Canty doesn't have the answers, and he hopes he doesn't end up another victim trying to find them.

I consider my life to be different from any other teenagers. No mom, no dad, no home. For 9 years, I woke up to nothing but two bunk beds and 4 annoying girls. But as I got older I was determined to change and become a better person. Hanging out with other teenagers, joining clubs, being nicer to people, but none of that worked.
