It is 1914, and Henry Anderson is watching the world descend into war. Like many young men at the time, he is fascinated by the idea of warfare and glory. Henry enlists in the military against his parents' wishes and throws himself into the life of a British soldier in Flanders. But it is far from what he expects: Henry's fantasies of righteous battle fade into the grim reality of gruesome death and shell-shock. He and his fellow soldier Jacob must help each other survive the cruel trenches, but it is no longer certain that either of them will return to England alive. Told in journal entries and letters from Henry's sister Elizabeth, this reveals the realities and horrors of World War I, on the battlefield and in the homefront. I wrote this for a history project while studying WWI and got way too involved in it, so here you are. WARNINGS: gun/bomb/gas-related violence, war descriptions, graphic death, suicide attempt. I will mark specific chapters with warnings and give summaries of those chapters on the following one. The War to End All Wars is a poem written by Luna Heart. Originally named In Flanders Fields Remastered because of the eight syllable lines that resemble the fluency and pace of the original poem written by John McCrae. Both poems are about war, and talk about the unneeded fighting and endless suffering mainly of the two world wars. The War to End All Wars is intended to inspire and educate everyone about the pain and torment of all countries during the world war through poetry.

Before 1936, I was alone. Russia was in a state of chaos after the Bolshevik takeover at Petrograd. Vladimir Lenin was gaining power at a frightening rate. Outside of Russia, the world was at war with itself. After Archduke Ferdinand's assassination, Europe was plunged into turmoil. Everything was going insane. I wasn't alone in the familial sense. Although my mother died giving birth to my younger sister, Natalia, and my father was one of the ones killed in Petrograd, I still had my sisters. Katyushka was my older sister. She treated me with a maternal gentleness; in fact, it was she who made my scarf, which I still wear to this day. Natalia was my younger sister. She was very attached to me, and some might've called it obsessive, but I didn't blame her. When she was three, I had fallen very ill, and I almost didn't make it. Katyushka soon got over my near death, but since Natalia was so young, her mind never fully recovered. But even with my sisters, I was still alone. I was always trying to find some way for us to scrape by, which led me to spend most of my waking hours away from home. I had very few friends, and the friendships I had were shaky, at best. 9 minutes is the first act of a play I've been writing. Set in the last 9 minutes of the first world war, it's a piece about human boundaries and the limits of mankind.

The Order of the White Feather was founded in Great Britain's 1914, its primary mission to encourage women into pressuring family members and neighbors into enlistment. Members of the Order trickled over into the United States of America, where they continued their harangue of able-bodied men they deemed cowards. William James Davis, a 3rd generation rancher in north central Texas, refused to be called a coward in spite of his distaste for violence. After an Order member gives him a white feather in late 1917, he enlists, and his family's small, isolated world in the Red River valley would never again be the same. (This story is semi-fictitious. It was inspired by my discovery of a white feather inside an antique book I'd purchased a few years ago. It's always intrigued me to find such a thing tucked inside the pages of a book dating from 1942. The only slightly real things in this story are the book itself, my discovery of it, and the events this story will be based on (World War I and World War II). Any other similarities to any person or event is fictitious.)
