Mayuri has spent her life digging up the past - never once imagining the past would reach back and pull her in. One moment she is standing on the Gujarat coastline, staring at a relic rising from the sea, trying to decode the language inscribed across its surface. The next, she is standing in a world that should not exist - a world of gold-spired palaces and rivers that have not yet been named on any map she knows. Dwapara Yuga. The age of the Mahabharat. The age of Krishna. She always believed him to be a story. A metaphor wearing a crown. A god invented by people who needed one. She was wrong. And the moment she realizes it, she does something no one in any scripture ever dared to do - she challenges him. If he is truly who they say he is, if fate truly bends to his will the way every text claims, then surely it can bend to hers too. She tells him she will change it. The war. The deaths. The grief written into every page of a story that hasn't been written yet. Krishna only smiles, and tells her to try. What follows is not the rewriting she imagined. Every thread she pulls tightens another. Every fate she tries to spare finds its way back to ruin by a different road. She is drowning in a war that was never supposed to be hers to fix, in a yuga that was never supposed to let her in - and the longer she stays, the less certain she becomes of which world she is fighting to save: theirs, or the one she left behind. Some stories are written to be read. This one was written to be lived - and Mayuri is running out of time to change the ending.

It was not every day that Hastinapur hosted all its princes these days. Especially since five of them were no longer just Princes of Hastinapur. Duryodhan made sure that whenever his cousins visited, he was not in Hastinapur. His parents, uncle and pitamah did not like this-- each had their own reasons-- but Duryodhan always managed to get away in the end. Except this time, because apparently, the Pandavas had come specifically to meet him. He had not been able to fathom why. In hindsight, he would have not have been able to fathom why even if he had been told 2 days earlier instead of 2 hours. He would have also, prefered having his uncle with him instead on in Gandhar. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Where Kunti comes out a tad sooner, Yudhisthira is politically savvy, Duryodhan is stressed, Shakuni is thankfully absent, Arjun is depressed and Karna is just confused. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Set years before the dyut sabha, so before that it is placed several years before the Pandavas had done the raj surya yagya, and even before when Arjun had left for his exile.

I will watch as Dharma is restored to Bhoomidevi" Three Kingdoms. One woman in the center of them all. As the Mauryan Empire falls to a new King, the Kuru Dynasty begins its story. You may have watched a movie or TV show based on Mahābhārata, or read an adaptation or translation of the story, or even written a fan fiction from the point of view of your favourite character. Have you ever wondered how an incident or dialogue sounded in the original Saṃskṛta text? What values did Kṛṣṇa Vāsudeva, Karṇa Rādheya etc. espouse according to their speeches in the critical edition's reconstruction of the text as it was several centuries ago? Unfortunately, most people of Indian origin or affinity don't make the effort to read Saṃskṛta. Through this book, I would like to make it accessible to my readers. I have created fan fiction and translated the text that inspired it, but please try to sound out the original Saṃskṛta as well, and feel its rhythm. Mahābhārata is fiction in the public domain. Everyone who retells the story adds or ignores something, as I do in this book. You may or may not like my Mahābhārata fan fiction (please tell me either way!), but the purpose of this book is to give everyone the opportunity to read their favourite parts of Mahābhārata in the original Saṃskṛta - a musical, enchanting, and refined language. Your contributions and requests are welcome. The title is spoken by Gāndhārī to Kṛṣṇā Draupadī (Strīparvan 15.20): "Just as you are, even so am I; or who would reassure me?" How many characters from Mahābhārata may have felt lonely in shared experiences? Cover picture of Satyabhāmā Sātrājitī visiting Kṛṣṇā Draupadī is from Mahābhārata with Hindi translation by Paṇḍita Rāmanārāyaṇadatta Śāstrī Pāṇḍeya, Gita Press (Gorakhpur).
