Zak lives in a rural, conservative area with his single, alcoholic father and he has insomnia and anxiety. Zak often sneaks out in the night to drive around and go to red hole, a popular hole in the creek to go swimming in. One night there, he finds a guy named Darryl.

Zak and Darryl have been dating for around 5 months or so till suddenly one day Darryl announces to Zak that he has to go on a trip to see his family.
