He escapes through the zoo's hidden infrastructure, surviving a gauntlet of threats including panicked bats, a crocodile enclosure, an owl attack, and a tigress guarding the only exit, before crawling through a drainage pipe into the wild beyond the zoo fences. By morning, the head keeper quietly writes him off as "lost in transit," erasing him as easily as the dead female had been erased before him.
