Almost sixteen years have passed since the Battle of Endor. Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade, former personal agent and assassin for Emperor Palpatine himself, have fallen in love and just gotten married. Their union has helped bring a public face to the truce between the governments of the New Republic and the Imperial Remnant, and things have calmed down for the most part. But there is a stirring in an outlying System near Imperial Remnant space: a growing, dark power that the Imperial Leadership knows they would never be able to defeat in their weakened state. Rather than just ask for the New Republic's help, they resort to a bit of subterfuge, and makes a "peace offering," asking that the New Republic set up a Political Embassy on the Imperial Capital World of Bastion, hoping that the New Republic forces to be stationed there will find this threat and eliminate it for them.
