When her dad was murdered, Becca's mother became an alcoholic and a heavy drug abuser. Fear that the state would separate her and her little brother, Micheal in foster care she decides to take action and becomes the mother that he deserves.

Becca hasn't always fit in at school. Teasing day in and day out, but she suffers through it with the love of Micheal. She gets an afternoon job to help support them both, but the weight of life begins to take impact causing her to crack.

Mr. Honeycutt, her algebra teacher, notices the excessive tardiness, the downfall of her grades, the bruises appearing, and the emotional abuse that his student is suffering, and decides to take action.
