In a world of super people, EPs, there are a select few that go on to defend the vulnerable.  Some work legally, as licensed EPs that work with law enforcement. Some, unable to work in law enforcement due to mental illness, missed qualifications, or an unwillingness to cooperate, become Renegades, unlicensed EPs. They work in the dead of night, defending people who are incapable of seeking help or those unable to be helped. 

Despite all the good Renegades can do, they can cause a great deal of harm to those they mean to protect. Sometimes they mess up. Sometimes they cause devastating things to happen. This is the story of one mess up.

Living with your ex-best friend should honestly be illegal. Especially when that ex-best friend is Manu, the same guy who broke our promise, broke whatever we were, and somehow still manages to mess with my head every time he walks into the room. He says I didn't let him explain. Maybe he's right. But what for? He already broke my trust the moment he chose a different program, acting like the promise we made meant nothing. And I'm supposed to just sit there and listen? Pretend it didn't hurt like hell? And yeah, maybe I befriended a guy in our org. Maybe it was for "self-exploration." Maybe it was a little bit out of spite. If Manu wanted me out of his life so badly, then he shouldn't care who I talk to or what I do-right? Right. Except he does care. I see it in every glare, every slammed door, every stupid argument we fall into at 2 a.m. Somewhere along the line, all that anger twisted into something I hate knowing is still there: want. Maybe even something deeper I'm not ready to name. Enemies. Roommates. Something more? I don't know. All I know is this isn't just a story about falling in love. It's about facing the person you thought you'd already lost-and realizing he might not be gone after all.

My life used to be pretty boring. Everything was average. Normal family, normal looks, normal house, normal job, normal life. The only non-boring aspect of my life was my best friend which was only because she always managed to mess it up somehow. I didn't really mind much because it kept things interesting. That is until she disappeared leaving me to care for her fatherless child with nothing more than a few hundred pounds and a sorry note. She did ruin my old life. She ruined everything that I'd actually cared for. My parents hated the fact that I was 'throwing my life away' for a child that wasn't mine. Not to mention illegally. I dyed my hair blue in rebellion. My own way of saying "F*CK YOU!" ...They kicked me out shortly after. I couldn't find a decent job in the area and the rumors became so vicious that I just left and never looked back. Old life: Destroyed, unraveled, completely gone.
