Maxon and Kriss rule all of Illea. Maxon is miserable, but Kriss is oblivious. She is also very overruling. After ten years of miserable fighting, Maxon finally convinces Kriss to allow him to remove the castes.
With the help of the northern rebels, Maxon thinks he can do it. That is until he finds out that one of the rebels they sent is the one and only America Singer, who fell into her fathers footsteps.
