The boy figured that the bandits sent an actual assassin after him. Still not abandoning hope, the young lad awaited his murderer. Poising his father's carving knife, he remained extremely still as the anonymous person advanced.
Finally, the boy heard a step about two feet away. Catching his breath one last time and muttering a quick prayer under his breath, he sprang with his knife forward and a fierce glint in his eye- hoping for a clean shot.
