Ariel Randolph lives in a small town about 25 miles north of Kansas City, Missouri. The past 5 years of living in Missouri have been fairly normal, but all that changes when the new owners of the house close to hers moves in over the summer. Ariel goes to welcome her new neighbors, only to find out Jacob Sartorius is her new neighbor. The two become best friends over the summer, and become nearly inseparable. When school and cross country season starts, Ariel meets Kameron, the goofy and lovable kid that Ariel despised in 6th grade. Ariel and Kameron become close, causing Jacob to be jealous of Kameron as Ariel starts to spend less time with Jacob, and more time with Kameron. When Kameron and Ariel end up together, Jacob realizes he loves Ariel. Jacob tries to keep to himself and not interfere with Ariel and Kameron's relationship, but he can't help but realize how badly Kameron starts to treat Ariel. What will it take for Ariel to realize that Kameron isn't the one for her, and that all along the right one has been a couple yards away?
