Jeremy Ward is eleven years old when he meets his best friend, Atticus, the boy with the dazzling eyes. After only a few days together, and some very suspicious behavior, Atticus disappears. Three years later, he returns, and acts as if nothing has happened, Jeremy soon discovers the real reasons behind the strange occurrences, and wishes that he could just go back to his normal life, but he has passed the point of no return, and his life will never be the same again.
