"The sidekick to the sidekicks, the plain-jane Hufflepuff to the golden Gryffindors, the background character in my own life story. When people looked at me, they didn't see Susan; they saw the lonely Bones girl, the survivor in a sea of slaughter. I was defined by a family I had never met, a family whose faces I had seen only in photographs, whose stories I knew only from an obituary.

It was my story, my stigma, the way that people dismissed me before I ever said a word. But I never wanted the spotlight or their sympathy- I only wanted love. I never understood what it feels like to lose the ones you love, because I never genuinely loved anybody. I never got the chance to love a single one of them."
