For as long as Whitney can remember, her family has had rotten luck. Nothing extremely unlucky happens, like death, just a series of small misfortunes. This was just the way of the world for the Rose family. But true bad luck was about to hit Whitney.
It's a normal night for 18-year-old Whitney until she encounters an injured "wasted guy." Whitney, feeling sorry for the guy, tries to help. I mean, what if the vampires eat dogs, "You'll be a good girl if I get your dog?" "On a vampires blood promise." I make an 'x' on my heart. It's an oath most in this world don't take lightly, "Just for you." "How ironic." But the weirdly formal looking attired man turned down a familiar road heading back towards my apartment. I never gave him the address, nor was I able to stay awake long enough to greet my little angel, but her nose bops in greeting were enough to tell me she's safe while I dozed back off in the care of a duke. ~ 18+

Helen's parents demand that she marry the man they've chosen for her or be disowned. She chooses to be disowned. But that isn't good enough for them. They make sure that she either doesn't get jobs or they make sure that she gets fired from them. She loses her apartment and all her things do to them. Before one of them does more than grab her arm the three are gone. Helen looks down and finds them on the ground with their hearts torn out of the bodies.
