On the night of a treaty signing between the technological Empire of Niflhiem and the magical Kingdom of Lucis, Noctis Lucis Caelum knows not all is well. When Stella Nox Flueret of the enemy Tenebrae asks for a meeting, Noctis' brand on his arm flares up, counting down the time he has to complete his unknown task. Armed with only his three friends Prompto, Ignis, Gladiolus, and powers granted by the Crystal, Noctis must journey to collect the Royal Arms of past rulers of Lucis to take back his kingdom. But fate is cruel to the Prince as he finds himself stumbling and losing his way, leaning on his friends heavily for support as he falls for the supposed enemy. He must bring himself up while gathering his powers, before he not only loses his kingdom but also himself and the world slips into darkness.
