In the sequel to Treachery Queen, the Seelie Court has declared its war on the world, and nothing will ever be the same.

It has only been a week since Pasiphae of Eo entered a fake marriage alliance with the Seelie Crown Prince in a bid to forestall his mother's coming invasion on Medeis, Pasiphae's homeland. Now, those who were once enemies have disappeared into the shadows, while new contenders have clawed their way into power. Amidst the chaos, there is only one possible outcome that ends well for Medeis: Seth must have the Seelie throne, and Pasiphae takes it upon herself to ensure it.

Meanwhile, Circe of Eo has turned diplomat. The Unseelie Queen knows that invasion is coming, and is desperate to snatch the Isles, where the humans make their home. To keep it from her grasp, the witches must conquer the land first, for the humans' own good. But the Isles has secrets of its own, and if Circe isn't careful, she may be swallowed by the rising tide.

From a perilous journey into a country that kills all who enter, to a mission into the Seelie Court during its midnight sun, the two sisters will do anything to protect Medeis. Heads will roll, hearts will be broken, and if the world is to fall a second time, then so be it.

And Pyxis, the fairy city they preside over, has never been more peaceful or prosperous. This is the appearance they need the fairy world to behold. The truth is too cruel to fathom. They are painfully vulnerable. Evil is never very far. So they bury it deep and cling to the hope it won't claw its way out. Scott MacRae knows in his gut that Andromeda will return and that his days could be numbered. It's no wonder he can't focus or sleep at night. His heart is full of holes. There is only one void he can possibly fill - if any. But as both a father and leader, any action he takes will have profound consequences. Joseph believes what he wants to believe - that which makes him admired and respected, a fairy celebrity, everything he wasn't in his former human life. But his truth lurks in the shadows too. Try as he may, he's far from perfect. He can't forgive or forget. Or avoid temptation. He's come so far. He's found his purpose. And yet he still wants what he can't have, an ideal he perpetually fails to obtain. Cassiopeia was always a princess, but for the first time ever, she's assumed the lifestyle she was never granted during her mother's reign. Despite the dress fittings, grand appearances, and a high-profile engagement, she doesn't have any real power in the kingdom she will supposedly inherit someday. She is small. She is wingless. She is not her mother. Her world never fails to remind her. Does it even matter? It's hard to say. Something is missing. Or someone. And she isn't who she once was. The higher they rise, the harder they'll fall? Christopher MacRae. He left four years ago and no one has heard from him since. Is he dead or alive? Is he the solution or the problem? And where is Andromeda anyway? If Christopher and his allies haven't vanquished what remains of her army...then who will?
