Her name is Cassie; her current state, unstable. She's been abused, suicidal, and now... mute. She was diagnosed with Progressive Mutism. A severe form of Selective Mutism: an anxiety disorder (caused generally from trauma) when the disorder progresses until the person with the condition refuses to speak to anyone in any situation, even close family members. It's not that she doesn't know how, her anxiety just makes it seem impossible. The residential treatment facility for girls she's staying in is trying to help her, but how long can she refuse help until they refuse to try?

The sixteen-year-old pianist Xenja is suffering from selective mutism which keeps her from talking to people outside of her family. This made finding friends almost impossible for her and being alone constantly made her fall into depression. The spoiled eighteen-year-old Stevie had to move in with her grandparents and now has to adapt to a very poor and limited lifestyle. SHe had dreamt of taking piano lessons for a long time but doesn't have money to do so. When both Xenja's mother and Stevie's grandparents ask the school for help with their situations, Xenja giving Stevie free piano lessons seems to be the solution that kills two birds with one stone. But sometimes things aren't as easy as they might seem...
