The Standouts - A Critique Contest by PAULAPDX (Summer 2019 Edition) by paulapdx

🛑 - CLOSED until 2021. ***If you're interested in my critiques, you might want to check out my weekly newsletter for opportunities to get a personalized critique. https://paula.substack.com/p/coming-soon Does your work stand out in an overly-crowded landscape? Does your story & writing shine as far as: ★ - Concept ★ - Voice ★ - Storytelling The Standouts is a fun, but hopefully helpful contest that can give you a sense of whether your story resonates with someone who's got some experience under her belt. Great! But who are you to judge? Fair question. This is not to humble-brag, but I've been critiquing and have worked with story development for quite some time, and I've picked up a lot along the way. ☙ - As an Ambassador, I work on content projects. ☙ - If you look at my profile, you'll see everything I've published so far has managed to standout in one way or another, whether by leading me to become a Wattpad Star; or by winning a Watty (twice!); or by being picked as a Top 10 in major Wattpad contests (twice!); or being featured. All I'm saying is I'm no slouch. I'm not brilliant either. But I've got some experience around what can catch an agent, editor, or judge's eye, and I'd like to share that with the community. ☙ - In another lifetime, I used to work for HBO in Development and at ICM (the talent agency) in their writers' department which means I understand how professionals quickly gauge whether or not they'll take a closer look at a work and/or make an offer. This kind of insight can be helpful if you're planning to submit your work or even just want to stand out more here on Wattpad. ☙ - I used to provide critiques for three writers, all of them traditionally published. They seemed to value my insight. Read the RULES, LOGISTICS & PRIZES chapter for guidelines. All entries get a brief assessment of their first chapter, with winners getting more extensive critiques. Sound interesting? Give it a go! 😊

and hope to die... Meerab Arsalan had it all. The warm, healthy childhood, perfect teeth, stellar education, the best friends a girl could ask for, enough money to live a comfortable life & still have some left over every month for the Net-A-Porter hauls, & most importantly, the drop dead gorgeous, sinfully charismatic soulmate who was as amazing on the inside as he looked on the outside. Until she was faced with the daunting realisation that he wasn't all roses, warm honey & Victoria Sponge cake on the inside as she'd thought him to be... Delta Force operative Murtasim would've sooner made himself sniper target practice at the Fort Bragg HQ base than entertained the thought of a 'girl next door' variety female stumbling into his life (and his mission), wrapping him around her tiny, adorably plump pinky, & getting him to the alter all within a few months of knowing her And yet here he was, still alive & being dragged around Charlotte, North Carolina for cake tastings & tuxedo fittings by the said 'girl next door' variety female. And to say he loved it would be an overstatement, but to say he adored the living daylights out of her wouldn't be. Until someone decided they wanted to take the one thing he adored in the big bad world away from him. Pasts resurfaced, monsters roared all around, and worse, the ones inside him were unleashed until he wasn't just fighting for her, but fighting her to make sure they somehow made it back to the pretty picket fence, porch swing, & breakfasts in bed life they'd dreamed of. A short story by DelilahUpInTheClouds. Cover by the talented moonshine_1 The hero's & heroine's first names have been inspired by PTV show Tere Bin.

Kaabil- The Worthy -A Tere Bin Fan Fiction When the world stops, and I look at you. Innocent, yet a bleeding heart. I want you to see me for who I am. Not what I have become. Nor what my past held. *** "Murtasim, would you like to marry me?" Murtasim took his wallet out and reached for my hand. He laid it on my palm. I gave him a baffled look. What is he doing? "I am giving you everything I own as of this moment. Does that answer your question?" I was torn between clutching the wallet or looking at his eyes. Though his face gave away zero confidence, his eyes did the job. I gulped and nodded. "Everything?" I whispered. Shaking, I kept a hand on his chest. He stiffened under my touch and blatantly stared at my hand. He knew what I was asking for. He blinked a few times. "If there is something there, then it would be yours. I promise." *** This is yet another tale of blossoming love of our favorites Murtasim and Meerab Khan. Though this fanfic approaches it in a different manner, I hope you will enjoy it🤍 *** #1 Yumhaj July 25, 2024
