Looking For A Story

I am looking for a story where the female lead has an abusive father, than goes to a school for people with special powers where she has a male roommate who she starts seeing at some point. I remember that she is an underground fighter or something before she goes to the school and her father ends up being the bad guy at the end and attacks her at the school and the principal(headmaster) can control stuff within the school boundary's .

If anyone knows the name of this story could you tell me, i think it won an award or something if that helps you place what story i'm talking about,it's a few years old too.
