In the year 921 A.D., the Arabic diplomat Ibn Faḍlān made an account of a Viking funeral. He was part of a caliphal embassy that made the trip from Bagdad to the Volga area, today's Russia.
I have reimagined his account from a different perspective - to that of a girl who joins her chieftain in death.

With gaping holes in the history books questions rise and when Lenja is not turned into a servant as was the deal but educated like a lady, anxiety rises. She must find out why the queen paid to have her there and why her friends at court are sneaking out in the night to cry behind gilded doors.
