When the latest technology in gaming is launched, that of which had only been heard of in science fiction novels before, gamers from all over are jumping at the chance to play. Maybe those novels telling of players being trapped that had become somewhat cliche were something of a warning as most science fiction is meant to be.

Land of Shadows was the first virtual reality massive multiplayer roleplaying game released to the public, and Towa VRGames, its creator, was thrilled to have so many people lined up to play the game. After allowing 10,000 beta testers to test the game, it was ready for action and released, but soon after... everything went wrong.

Beta tester Taro Kagemune was no ordinary player. Besides being a beta tester, she was the head of her large family and a company spanning more industries than most could ever think of doing successfully. After graduating university in her mid teens and medical school at around twenty, she was ready for a bit of experimentation to spread her family business into the gaming industry, and what better way than to start with the cutting edge?

She took the dive with the oldest of her two younger brothers, followed by much of her family, on that fateful day. What happened would make her wonder if she was really as great as she was made out to be. Can she keep going the way she had been without any help?

Taro has lived as a shadow for most of her life because she was taught that friends were of little worth a shadow was the most loyal friend, but what is a shadow without a light? Can she find a light to shadow or will the shadow fall to ruin and meld into the darkness in a land where shadows are the only tangible objects?

Within there side-slip dimension called the Green Realm, Verdant Realm, or the Garden. They grew side-by-side with mankind on Midgard until present day. 5000 years later their culture is steeped in pagan traditions that have led to prostitution being sanctioned and promoted by various churches, and very open and even incestuous life-styles. The ratio of monogamous to polygomist relationships is about 50/50. Harems and reverse harems are equally commonplace. Given the very limited animal resorces they brought with them they used science and magic to splice every animal species with Alari, Dvergr, or Giant DNA creating hybrids named the Animals, Insects, and various marine life. Later they spliced certain tree's DNA into Alfari thereby creating the Arboreals. Even in a fantasy there is oppression, racism, religious anamosity, political corruption, and corporate greed. [BOOK TWO] "Anniversaries to some are like counting the years spent doing something great, years spent together, or years spent alive." I started slowly, voice dropping to a drawl as I peeked cautiously out of my bedroom blinds, scanning the road to see if there was a cloaked figure watching my every movement. "I view anniversaries as counting down the days till death finds me." *** After the events of her wonderfully packed 21st birthday, Addison was ready to retire back into her home and never again see the light of day. It wasn't a totally bad idea. After all, her family's generations-old riches was enough to tide her over until the day her past finally catches on, and until that day finally arrives, she had no intention to step out of her front door. And to think the last time she did, she ended up in the game of cat and mouse with a cynical hooded spirit that wanted her dead and her soul in a glass bottle for his own little sadistic collection. Silence had followed the whole year after the disastrous party. For nearly 365 days, Addison had no trouble with unwanted evil celestial beings lurking around her house in an attempt to take her soul away with a world-stopping kiss. However, the silence was too often, and the world had become too quiet. Reason being? Apparently, Death's new move was to kidnap her best friend Minnie Hoover in an attempt to bait her down to hell itself. Life became much quieter without one-third of her little clique. And so Addison ventured away from the safety of her home, in search of her best friend. After all, silence creeps the heart just as death does, and the world was now deadly silent. ***** Highest Rank Fantasy: #9 Highest Rank Teen Fiction: #77
