Joseph Polenski has no skin. It was burned off in an acetylene explosion on a construction site where he was working. Instead he has a synthetic replacement: a creation of his genius younger brother, Matthew. A polymer mask bolts onto his skull to recreate his destroyed facial features and a synthetic membrane seals over his raw tissue. Joseph is prescribed morphine but it's not enough to manage the intense pain... street heroine works better. Matthew's dermatological research is Joseph's only chance to having a normal life again. Possible injury." . . "They found a baby in Gotham," Bruce finally said. "Abandoned in an alley. They ran a DNA test... and it matched you."
