"Alex can you get dressed up, we have visitors, and important news" my mom said, with a sad look on her face. "Yeah sure mom" I walk over to my closet, and pick out a dark green dress, and tan wedges. I left my brown hair flowing down my back, and put a little mascara on. I wondered what mom needs to tell me, and who the heck are the visitors that I need to dress up for? We never have visitors, heck, I only have one friend, and he's home schooled, just like me. But if he's the visitor, then why the heck do I have to get dressed up? I knew something was wrong by the look on my moms face. I needed to find out. So I walked down the stairs. Wondering what could be waiting at the bottom. I get down there, and see a guy, who looks around my age, which is sixteen, a girl that looks a little older maybe by three or four years, and my moms best friend Gina. The boy looked like your typical fuckboy, but had a confused face just like me, the others just seemed anxious. I take my steps towards them cautiously. My mom motions for me to sit down next to her, as she stands up, I take the seat. "What's going on" I asked her, tears filled her eyes, and she gave Gina a nod, "um, Alex your mother is very sick, and fears that if something is to happen to her, you won't be safe. My son Cameron, has acted up a lot, and needs to find a way to settle down, so me and your mother have made a decision that will solve both problems." She paused, and I glanced at Cameron and he shrugged his shoulders like he didn't know what to do, "we've made the decision that you two will get married to each other before your moms time is up"
"You're different from what I expected," she said softly.
"How so?" he asked, glancing at her.
"I don't know," she replied, searching for the right words. "You just... have this way of making people feel like they matter. Even here, in this... nightmare."
He was quiet for a moment before responding. "You matter, Y/n. Don't forget that."
