All her life she's been judged. Born into a lowly traveling circus, she lived as an acrobat until the circus separated to the four winds, leaving her to endure life alone in the harsh village of Yew.
At 17 she finds her way into the deceitful palace of King Jason, whose illegitimate son Jagger plans to overthrow him. This misbegotten prince draws her deeper into the dangers and passions of this "bastard court," and for the first time in her life, Grace Hoar feels like she belongs, next to traitors, spies, and poisoners. More than anything, she belongs by Jagger's side.
While once she was called outcast, whore, runaway, now she is his assassin - and might be so much more. But is it enough?
