Birmingham, 1919: Thomas Shelby returned from World War I as he got to know a wonderful lady at an English pub: Grace Burgess. Thomas couldn't get rid of the awful images of dead bodies in his head and anything else he had to see in France. This caused him to buy drugs on a regular basis, making him destroy his relationship with Grace.
