There has long been a divide between the artistic, colorful Terran kingdom and the traditional, scholarly Cirropia kingdom, and the time has come to remedy it. The way to do that? With Linnet and Nikolai. Their future marriage has been spoken of since they were children, and they meet each other for the first time a week before their wedding day.

But their wedding comes at in inopportune time; war is brewing, families are feuding, and attacks are coming nearly every night. At first, the Crown Prince and Princess are kept out of the mix. But then, Nikolai nearly gets assassinated. And maybe it's time for even the royals to go to war.
