In 1959, Robert Bloch wrote his classic thriller-horror novel, Psycho. It was adapted to film the following year by Alfred Hitchcock, which starred Janet Leigh as Marion Crane, and John Gavin as Sam Loomis, Marion's lover. Eighteen years later, John Carpenter and Debra Hill produced the legendary film, Halloween. With Janet's daughter, Jamie Lee Curtis taking the lead role of Laurie Strode, John and Debra chose to name a character in their film after a character in Psycho as homage-and thus-we were introduced to Dr. Sam Loomis, the obsessed psychiatrist who struggles to keep his patient, Michael Myers, incarcerated at Smith's Grove Hospital, where he belongs.
