In anticipation of Dead Men Tell No Tales being released this year, I thought it was high time to write a Jack fanfic! The beginning of the story is set between The Curse of the Black Pearl and Dead Man's Chest and continues into the second movie. 

I also use a lot of references from other lovely pirate themed things (listed in chapter 1).

Summary ~

Captain Slade... It is a name whispered and scrutinized through out the taverns. For it is the name of an infamous pirate who is said to have no mercy, no compassion, no quarter. It's said they'd kill any landlubber in a heart beat if they so much as looked at them the wrong way. How these rumours came about, well, nobody really knows, but you be sure to steer clear if you see velvet red sails on the horizon, for it means the Dragon's huntin', and fly like a beast it will, until it catches up to your own poor vessel, and sink it by engulfing it in a supernatural blue fire that is said to come from the very depths of hell itself!

"Mr. Gibbs." 

"Aye captain?" Gibbs turned away from his coddling of listeners and looked towards none other than his Captain Jack Sparrow sitting on a nearby barrel.

"Quit scaring my crew with your silly ghost stories." He said as he gestured wildly with his hands.

"But Captain, it's true! They're supposed to be one of the nine pirate lords! And I've 'erd they have the biggest pirate fleet to boot! Don't you know 'em?"

"The court hasn't convened in decades, how am I supposed to know who's on the damned thing?"

"Ah, well, I suppose that's true..." 

Gibbs turned back to his story time as Jack stood up and strided to the Pearl's railing, leaning over and looking out into the sea. 

Hmm... Jack thought to himself. This Captain Slade sounds like an interesting character, I'd love to meet this so called legend!

One of them laughed in response. (3) "Young spring, rise up so we can see your face." One of the men said, (2) My body was frozen with fear, and I made no move. "Now young, Swabbie. You may be of use to us yet." (3) I glance at their shoes. Slowly standing, my legs trembling slightly. I wipe my tears with my palms. Then look at the burly men before me. "Come on, wee lass, the captain will surely be missing us." One of them states: (1) I only shake my head no. His smile disappeared within a few moments. I gulp my spit. "Come on, lass, you will be becoming one of us, matey. There is no need to feel frightened." He says it with a blank face. (1) Not edited
