An all-American family gets lost on a detour in Eastern Kentucky and stumble upon the tiny town of Darkness.  They soon learn the sordid history of the town, and why it is called Darkness, and about the dark and mysterious shape-shifting creature that roams the mountain peaks above.  They are shocked to find out why the monster wants a human sacrifice every September 23rd, on the anniversary of a horrible tragedy, that damned the village of Darkness.
