Life on Earth is despairingly boring. Get up, go to work, eat, shower, sleep and repeat. Well maybe add eat another 9000 times in the cycle. Marco Polo has played life's game enough times, he needs something new and fresh. He wants to feel again. He knows his actions will have repurcussions. He knows he's being selfish. He knows leaving his family is morally wrong. But he knows that the Moon is his home.
Also there's an alien named Larry - just thought I'd add that in.
