Alex McCain thinks her life is normal, well as normal as it can be with a mother who isn't too overwhelmed about her, an annoying older brother, and a father who she grows up believing died in a car crash. But when things start happening - her best friend's dad killed, impostor policemen trying to kill her, and on top of that, the man her mother married seems to be trying to "stop her getting to that place" and learning who her father really was, Alex realises that there is only one place she and her friends are safe, and to get there means following her father's dangerous secret instructions, but where are they leading her? Why does she feel a strange connection to Casey, the only person at the Academy who seems determined to give her a hard time? Alex starts questioning who her dad really was, and how does she fit into this puzzle of terrorists and criminals. But by the time she is ready to get answers, things are about to get deadly.
