It was dark. A cold wind blew through the stillness of the night. The echoes of screams no longer pierced the air; everything was dead. He picked his head up, slowly, to ensure the blanket of silence remained undisturbed. Grime covered his face and his breath was oddly shaky. He looked down in horror to realize that a deep gash ripped across his side. How could this have happened? Suddenly, realization struck him and he jumped up, wincing in pain, and called out her name.
