"Have you seen the new girl? Everyone won't stop talking about her!" Jackie said this with such an excited attitude that I could see drops of coffee fly from her mostly full Starbucks Cup. It wasn't even hot but she insisted on getting a sleeve for it. I liked tea. "No Jackie, I haven't seen her. New people don't glance at girls like us. Plus, I haven't heard the best things about her so far..." I could feel an invisible ball in my throat tighten up as I admitted this. The truth was, I have seen her, at least for a brief second, and she was nothing like I had ever seen strut into this small-town school before. I was stupid enough not to know that the new girl would change my life forever....and it all started with the drop of a pencil and a coffee stain.
