One mans will to have a life, will always overpower another's desire to end it.
A nexus, realm octun, an operational facility erected three months ago, officially made to train the solmet empire's children, is used as an induction system to find those gifted with the solstice emerate; a will, so strong, that the desires of the possessor come to fruition.
The only currently known possessor is holt lias, an ampulous, born from a family of triden, and cast out due to her difference, spending the following 13 years without any food, or any water, those who gained the knowledge grew brain tumors weeks later, and those who ran, found their way into walls. She never knew though, as she was never taught what the gift was, she only knew what she thought she needed to know, like who was who, how to get help, and how to sleep.
Though she was powerful, her mind was fragile, like a glass jar, if you drop her she will shatter. And she was falling, falling from a plateau, which began as a journey, an 89 degree climb, 10000 feet tall, death following her with the promise to pull her up when she missed a step, and she tripped, she tripped quite a bit, death always caught her, until he didn't, but she had a will, a will to live, a will to breath, a will to keep going. so she grew wings and flew. And like a glass jar, you can fill it up, with what? Well, anything that can fit, though not everything that can fit should.
"Daddy, please don't turn off the lights. The monsters will find me." Ana pleaded as she pulled the covers up to her nose.
"Don't worry, Ana. There's no such thing as monsters." Frank answered before flexing dramatically, earning a giggle from her, "Besides, if they tried to hurt you, I'd just beat 'em up!"
"Promise?"
"Promise." He kissed her forehead before he tucked her in and turned off the light.
"Goodnight, angel."

The world changed overnight. A mysterious system appeared in everyone's minds announcing the detection of a "Breach."
Monsters unlike anything humanity had ever seen before began to emerge, immediately ending one-third of the world's population.
And that was just in the beginning.
Every father wants to be their daughter's hero. It's an unspoken rule written into every man's DNA. But most fathers aren't pitted up against eight legged abominations.
Frank was just an ordinary man; no training, no experience, just depression and a four year old. Yet, he was all that stood between Ana and certain death.
If that's the way it was, then he couldn't back down. He made a promise, and he would keep it or die trying.
Luckily, the world wasn't entirely merciless. This "System" granted humanity a fighting chance: otherworldly gifts and powers that defied the laws of nature.
While Frank's gift wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, it did give him power.
Power enough to hopefully keep his daughter safe, and punish the monsters that dared threaten her in the first place!
