MaruiBashi

Maruibashi is a large island that has been around for over 7 centuries. This island is large and independent enough that many consider it a country.

Twenty years ago a war started. This war was between the two powerful factions, the Tenshi and the Akuma. During this war, many Ningen were wiped out. That was when these traditions were put into place, to ensure that there would be enough Ningen to keep the peace, or to attempt to. By having an Akuma and a Ningen mate, they were creating something more powerful that an Akuma. They created a half breed. These half breeds had the intelligence of the Ningen, but the strength of the Akuma.

Every three decades, the eldest princess from the Royal Haruhi family, at that time is to marry an Akuma of the Akuma Empress' choosing, though they are given time to get to know each other and (hopefully) fall in love. Anyone to disregard this tradition is to be exiled or executed. These traditions came into effect recently to keep the peace between the Ningen and the Akuma.
