"I'm not afraid, are you?" he whispered, softly stroking my chin with his thumb. And just for a second, a foreign sensation infiltrated my and and body, blocking everything out but the two of us. We stood vulnerable, as if we were peering into the hidden depths of the other's soul, unafraid of the flaws and darkness that laid within.
But this wasn't meant to last forever. It couldn't. I stepped away from him. In a bittersweet way, I was okay with it.
