Nanay

"Nanay" is a poem about the pain of losing a grandmother, the helplessness of wanting to hold on, and the difficult process of accepting that some goodbyes can never be stopped. It is a reflection of grief, love, and the yesterdays that remain after someone leaves this world. I wrote this poem to honor my Nanay and the life she lived. Today, August 26, 2026, is her birthday, and it hurts knowing that she is no longer here to celebrate it with us. There are moments when I still wish I could turn back time, hear her voice again, and have just a little more time with her. Writing this became my way of carrying the pain. It does not take the sadness away, but somehow, putting my feelings into words makes the weight a little lighter. I may not be able to bring her back, but through these words, I can keep a part of her alive. I want the world to know that she existed, that she was loved, and that her memory will always have a place in my heart. Happy birthday, Nanay!. I miss you more than words could ever say.
