Kayden knows he has it a lot better than others do. Sure, he has to worry about being gay. Sure, he doesn't have a mom to run home to. Sure, he never knows if he'll have new bruises before the next day. He does have two very loyal friends, Aralynn and Sawyer. They love and support him, same with his older brother, Nixon. They've stuck beside him through everything, even when everyone else failed to. He knows one day he'll be able to move away, but he knows he will never be able to forget how people at school looked at him, how his own father looked at him, how his own father beat him relentlessly, he'll never be able to get away from the hate that comes with being gay. Maybe one day he'll find "the one"; the one who can save him from this hate. But what are the odds? After all, this isn't a fairy tale, and there aren't happy endings.
